Art Retreat: Unfolding You

A creative way to unlock the wisdom of your body map for holistic somatic healing.

What is Body Mapping?

In this 2-day art retreat we will use a technique called body mapping. Body mapping is a powerful tool that helps us to literally draw out the stories, emotions, and experiences stored in our physical form. In the upcoming workshop, we will use various techniques to create a visual map of your body, highlighting areas that hold tension, pain, or other sensations. This process helps us bring awareness to these places and gently inquire into what they might be holding.

What is Embodiment?

Body mapping is rooted in somatic therapy and indigenous traditions where the body is seen as integral to healing. It's a practice of embodiment, where you turn inward to explore how your physical form reflects your emotional and spiritual experiences. By creating this map, we give ourselves the opportunity to make the unconscious conscious, to connect with our body’s wisdom, and to facilitate deeper healing.

It was implemented by the clinical psychologist Jonathan Morgan who wanted to help South African women suffering from HIV/ AIDS to narrate their stories.

What to expect in the Unfolding You Retreat:

In our time together, we will:

  • Learn how to tune into our body’s signals and sensations.

  • Use creative tools to map out areas of stored tension, emotion, and energy.

  • Engage in gentle movement and meditation to release and process what we uncover.

  • Build a deeper relationship with our body’s inner landscape, allowing for more flow and freedom.

What is Body Mapping good for?

Body mapping is not just about identifying pain or tension; it’s about making space for all the parts of ourselves—those that have been neglected, silenced, or forgotten. When we connect with these places, we can begin to heal, release, and integrate these pieces into our lives with more compassion and understanding.

Whether you are an experienced artist or an absolute beginner: every form of expression is appreciated. No artistic skills required!
